We’ve all gotten used to movie trailers (they’ve been around a lot longer than I have), but is now the time for “book trailers”?? Despite our mothers’ warning we very much judge a book by its cover. Any publisher will tell you that you’re crazy if you doubt this. But are we so media saturated that looking at a book cover is no longer enough? Do we now need to see a video before we’ll read a book?
From a marketing perspective this makes perfect sense. If I get some sense of anticipation from read the cover of a book, wouldn’t it be better if I heard a stirring soundtrack with moving picture while I did so? Is it possible that rejecting video is merely book snobbery?
Watch the video below. Does this make you more – or less – likely to buy the book? Do you think the proliferation of book trailers to be a step in the right direction? Post a comment and share your thoughts!

I’ve said this before about the trailer for Immanuel’s Veins…it’s probably the first time a book trailer has convinced me to read a book. I don’t usually have Ted Dekker on my to read list. I almost always choose books with a strong romantic element or love stories. And if I hadn’t seen that trailer I wouldn’t have known Ted Dekker wrote a love story.
I haven’t read the book yet, but I fully intend to.
