Dennis Smith

Dennis Smith, a veteran firefighter, has been called the "poet laureate" of firefighters. His writing career began in the early 1970's, when his letter describing the typical day in the life of a New York firefighter was printed in the New York Times. Soon after, he wrote Report from Engine Co. 82, an account of daily life in New York's busiest fire company. His writings are very popular because they express the true horror of what firefighters experience, and remind us that heroes still exist today. (c) www.albany.edu/writers-inst/smithd.htm
