The Quiet Waters By

This is a delightful collection
of stories, poems, songs, photographs, and artistic sketches.
The author, Jesse D. Munro, recounts many memories of her
life living on Manitoulin Island with her husband, David,
and her seven children. Daughter, Ruth Stutzman, and son,
Sandy Munro, are the gifted artists in this book providing
wonderful drawings of their family home, both parents, and
some of the natural beauty of the island itself. This is
truly a family effort. I enjoyed it immensely and read it
from cover to cover in one sitting. While it has priceless
meaning to family members as a family heirloom might, anyone
can read this book with an awareness of a beauty that declares
the awesomeness of our loving God. Every reader will be
reminded of the joys of family and the precious memories
of our growing years.
Here is what a family friend
writes in the Preface:
"The author of
this personal account tells the story with humour, appreciation,
and wonderful memories oflife on the world's largest fresh
water island. It was here that she was born, played, worked,
studied and loved - Manitoulin Island.
The closely knit family
of nine children with proud and thrifty parents were deeply
touched by the cohesiveness in their small community during
the "dirty thirties." They clung together tenaciously
and frequently left one wondering if miracles were happening.
The author of this lovely
book recalls snippets of her life from the beginning. A
highlight was, of course, marriage to her like-minded husband
and they became highly successful in creating an atmosphere
of love and closeness in their seven children. One soon
becomes aware that the grandchildren, from the oldest to
the youngest, are delighted when Grandma (with the odd helpful
remark from Grandpa!) sits down to tell one of her stories.
It is evident that this
"storyteller" has a tremendous influence over
the entire family with her appreciation and thankful heart
for the many blessings they enjoy. Their contribution toward
putting this story together in a very attractive style speaks
of some of the family's skills and talents.
This is a book to enjoy!"
