Reading Waiting for the Whales was my first encounter with the work of Sheryl McFarlane. I found this story to be beautifully crafter with lovely drawings by Ron Lightburn and would recommend it to everyone. This book is a winner of the Governor General's Literary Award for Illustration, the IODE Book Award (text), the Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustrators Award, and the Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Award. She is the author of several children's books.
