Fox Walked Alone
by Barbara Reid

Click on image for author information
We often tell the story of Noah & the ark to our youngsters but have you ever noticed it’s always from Noah’s perspective? Did you ever stop to think about how the animals came to the ark before that scene of them marching “two by two” up the plank?
This delightful children’s book takes the perspective of one fox who joins the parade to the ark, not really knowing what is going on. He follows cautiously along, through the hilly countryside and even though a deserted town, keeping a careful eye on the tigers, alligators and lions.
The Plasticine depictions of the animals are quite amazing and give the pictures a real feeling of depth and perspective. As a mom whose children love to play with any kind of modelling clay or dough, I cannot imagine the many patient hours it took Barbara Reid to construct even one scene. She has gone to great lengths to include detail and texture – check out the aerial scene of the deserted town, and you will see footprints and even droppings from the parade of animals! And I love the fact that she has included a wide variety of animals, even down to tiny bees, butterflies and horned beetles.
My 2 year old son is thoroughly enjoying this book and I highly recommend it.
