This is a delightful twist on the traditional
Cinderella story. In this story, Princess Elizabeth is about
to marry her love, Prince Ronald, when a terrible fire-breathing
dragon comes and smashes her castle, burns off her clothes,
and kidnaps Prince Ronald. Princess Elizabeth dons a paper
bag and sets off to rescue her beloved. After outsmarting
the dragon and rescuing Prince Ronald, who has the nerve to
criticize her for her unprincess-like clothes, she leaves
him and they do not live happily ever after which proves to
be just fine for Princess Elizabeth. Again, Robert Munsch's
story is a terrific read-aloud for children of all ages in
the elementary grades. The drawings by Michael Martchenko
are very comical and entertaining. This is one of Robert Munsch's
early hits and is sure to become a classic after over 20 years
of republishing.
A great addition to a child's library.
Especially for those of you who celebrate the independence
and intelligence of a female character like Princess Elizabeth.
It's about time we have a fairy tale where the Princess does
the rescuing instead of having to be rescued all the time!
Yeah for Robert Munsch!
