If
you enjoy stories about the Amish, you will enjoy
this delightful story. Set in the Amish
community of Hickory Hollow, it follows the life
of a young Amish woman, Katie Lapp, and her Amish
family. Katie faces the loss of the only
life she has ever known among the Amish people
when she discovers a mysterious secret that has
been kept for many years. She must decide
whether to follow where the mystery leads and
face possible banishment from all her friends
and family or forget all about this mystery which
threatens to unravel her perfectly plain Amish
life. I felt drawn in with this character
during the early pages of the novel and greedily
read on to the end within a few hours. I
was captivated by the trials and brave choices
the main character faced in order to remain true
to her own longings and to her faithful God.
After reading this first book in the trilogy,
I eagerly awaited the publishing of the sequel,
The Confession.
If
you were as captivated by the first book in "The
Heritage of Lancaster County" series, The Shunning,
you will enjoy following the story of Katie Lapp
in the sequel, The Confession. The
author has you following along as Katie Lapp (now
Katherine Mayfield) tries to pick up the unraveled
pieces of her Amish life following the revelation
revealed in the first book of the series.
Katherine must forsake her Amish family and friends
and delve into life in the lonely, modern world
as she searches for a long-lost family member.
Has she made the right choice and will she be
forever an outcast among the only family she has
every known in the Amish community? What
influence does her long-lost love, Daniel, have
over the choices she struggles to make in her
new life? Will she be reunited with this
lost love? The author has the reader racing
through the pages to discover the resolution of
the turmoil that Katherine is experiencing. In
spite of my angst at discovering the ending, the
story is not finished in this book, as the reader
must read the final work in the trilogy, The
Reckoning, to discover the ultimate resolution.
The
final book in the trilogy, The Reckoning,
brings all the angst and turmoil of Katherine
Mayfield's young life (Katie Lapp) to an ending.
The ending does not come prematurely as she faces
several crisis within the pages of this book.
The reader rejoices in her good fortune on one
page only to be thrust to the depths of despair
as Katie's long-lost love is yet again unable
to connect with his one true love. Will
Katherine remain in the "fancy" world with her
mansion and servants or does her heart yearn for
her "plain" family and friends within the protective
Amish community? What path will Katherine
choose at the conclusion of this book? Will
she return to her loved ones in Hickory Hollow?
Or will she remain in her newly discovered family
home with its wealth and material comforts?
Will she seek out God's plan for her life and
will they include Daniel? The reader will
eagerly devour this final book in the Heritage
of Lancaster County series.
Are you one of over 700,000
people who fell in love with The Shunning,
The Confession, and The Reckoning?
Do you love great storytelling, precise characterization,
and quaint settings? If so, The Postcard,
by best-selling author Beverly Lewis, should
be your next read. It is a tender novel about
redemption and discovery as two people from
different worlds are forced to rely on one another
to uncover a long kept secret. Rachel Yoder,
a New Order Amish woman, lost her husband and
son in a tragic accident two years ago. Now,
returning to her aging parents with her young
daughter, she has resigned herself to the life
of a widow. With a subdued but cheerful heart
she helps her family run a bed-and-breakfast
in a quaint Lancaster county town. Philip Bradley,
a world-weary journalist from New York City
on assignment in Lancaster to write an article
on the Amish community, is a lodger at the Yoder's
B&B. A chance discovery by Philip of a postcard
written in illegible Pennsylvania Dutch in the
dresser of his room sets off a series of events
that leads him into the heart of the Amish life
and to the bedside of a mysterious woman known
as "The Storyteller." With the postcard as a
link to a haunted past, the woman gradually
weaves a riveting tale as old as herself about
a community shuttered in secrecy, shattered
by betrayal. Fascinated by the story, Philip's
and Rachel's lives become inevitably intertwined
despite the attempts of the community to protect
her from the outsider. Torn by devotion to the
people she loves and the awakening feelings
in her heart, Rachel searches her past to restore
old wounds in order than new love might grow.

I loved this story!!! It
is fraught with emotions that swing from sadness
to joy to exhilaration! If you are interested
in the lifestyle of the Amish, you would enjoy
this book! I would recommend this book in a

A Captivating Tale Set
in the Heart of Amish Country! After the dramatic
conclusion to his discovery of a long-lost postcard,
journalist Philip Bradley simply cannot forget
the Amish people he met while on assignment
in Pennsylvania particularly Rachel Yoder and
her young daughter, Annie. Rachel's cheerful
outlook, in spite of her blindness, and her
appealing, uncomplicated lifestyle beckon Philip
amid the high-paced existence of his New York
career. Philip's newfound knowledge of the true
reason for Rachel's loss of sight spurs him
on to uncover what he can about the possibility
for a cure. In Lancaster County, Rachel has
her own ideas about the way her vision might
be restored, and it doesn't include the local
healer and his black box. Now, Rachel firmly
believes the God she serves is the only One
who can grant her sight, but as the memories
of the trauma she suffered begin to resurface,
Rachel questions whether she can bear the agonizing
road to recovery. Drawn back to Lancaster County
over the Christmas holidays, Philip struggles
with the vast gulf separating him from the beautiful
Plain woman. Rachel has suffered unbearable
heartache; will his growing affection for her
only bring more of the same? Or must Philip
and Rachel sacrifice a future together for the
sake of all they know and love? (c) Amazon.com
This was a delightful sequel
to the first book! It is as equally interesting
and thought evoking as you watch the main character
make choices and take chances on love again.
You've got to read this one too!!
A thoroughly modern young
woman, Sarah Cain had ridiculed her sister's
choice of a Plain life-style, which served only
to intensify the lifelong rift between them.
Now, twelve years later, Sarah is stunned by
news of her sister's death and baffled by Ivy's
choice of a guardian. How can Sarah sacrifice
her successful career and a life she enjoys
to raise five Amish orphans? And what of Bryan
Ford, the man in her life? Upon her arrival
in Lancaster County, Sarah holds a grief all
her own-one very different from the suffering
of her nieces and nephews. Can the sorrow that
divides them ultimately unite the new family?
Will Sarah discover that Lancaster County's
Amish community is.... (c) Amazon.com
If you have enjoyed reading
Beverly Lewis' other Amish books, you will certainly
enjoy this one too! Set in the quaint and austere
Amish community, this novel deals with real
feelings and expectations encountered after
the death of a loved one. While I enjoyed the
overall story, I found it was almost idealistic
in the ending. Wouldn't it be nice if problems
like these worked out so wonderfully? I found
it a bit unrealistic in that regard. However,
I would still recommend this novel as another
great read by Beverly Lewis! She remains a favourite
author of mine.
This compelling
novel is a story about secrets that can threaten lives
and marriages. Melissa James has carried a secret
for many, many years. Kept it even from her beloved
husband. Now, forces from her past compell her to
confront her secrets and flee to the safety of an
Amish community. It is while staying in the home of
Lela in the midst of an Amish community, that Melissa
confronts her lies and fear and accepts the peace
of God as she accepts the promises He gives to all
who seek him. Will her new found faith be strong enough
to lean on when she discovers her husband has secrets
of his own? Will she ever receive red roses again
from her beloved husband? Or are their secrets too
bad to bring about a reconcilation between them?
I enjoyed this novel
by Beverly and David Lewis as much as I have enjoyed
her other novels set in the quaint Amish communities
around Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is a definite
must read for those who have enjoyed her other
Amish trilogy series and various other books with
this setting. I wonder what contribution Beverly's
husband, David, had with this particular book as she
was solo author in her other Amish books? Hmmm. Perhaps
another reader out there will see his part in this
particular novel and e-mail me. I always look forward
to another book by Beverly Lewis and will surely devour
it as quickly and easily as Sanctuary. Keep
up the fantastic novels, Beverly!!
When I was twelve, I made
a naïve, yet desperate pact with God to keep my
ailing mother alive. It was the first time I'd
ventured something so brazen making a contract
with the Almighty-. So begins the story of Becky
Owens, a talented and passionate young pianist
on the verge of adolescence when she learns the
devastating news of her mother's critical illness.
As the daughter of a country preacher in Lancaster
County, Becky knows well the significance of sacrifice,
and in her bargain with God, she vows to exchange
her most cherished possession for her mother's
life. Hospital rules only add to Becky's sorrow
twelve-year-olds aren't allowed to visit, so Becky
and her mother must share tearful smiles through
Lancaster General's sunroom window. But a realization
of the power of music and a lesson in unconditional
love compel Becky to rethink her "deal" with God,
and the sunroom becomes a place where miracles
happen. (c) Amazon.com
