This book comes from the "Shades of Eternity" series and is the first book I've read in the series. It has a historical setting in Europe during the mid 19th Century. The characterization is what carries this novel along as the characters are somewhat complex, if not a slight bit caricatures of characters of the beauty and the beast story lines. The physical scars and imperfections serve to emphasize the inner beauty of 3 of the characters. Their imperfections are what draw them together and place them at odds with others as they try to find acceptance by others and self-acceptance as well. Will the frozen heart of the selfish musician melt so that he's able to recognize true beauty beyond surface imperfections? Read this novel and find out.

Once you get past the caricature cast of some of the characters, the book is actually quite enjoyable. It is definitely not original in basic story line, but it is an easy read.
