When Sharon Sullivan-Colebrook,
a successful mystery writer, returns to the beach home her
deceased aunt has bequeathed to her, she finds everything
but closure. Mildred, the mannequin '"scarecrow"
is appearing in odd places throughout the house. Strange noises
disturb her at night. Sharon and her husband Jeff try to solve
an old family mystery, track down her estranged brother, and
rebuild a relationship with their 22-year-old daughter. At
the same time, God is working through a childhood friend to
help Sharon examine her religious upbringing and abandoned
faith.
This novel is full of secrets, surprises, and interesting
characters. Linda Hall skillfully brings all the sub-plots
together to a satisfying, thoughtul conclusion.
