A drug-induced crime. A rescue
worker down. An unknown hero. Anne Lundstorm is running from
her past. But it's about to catch up. EMT Anne Lundstrom thought
she'd escaped the pain of her past when she moved out of the
city and into the quiet town of Deep Haven. She certainly
never expected to get roped into helping Noah Standing Bear
run his summer camp for inner-city kids. But Noah has a charisma
she can't ignore, and romance is in the air. Has God brought
Anne the one man who can understand her dark past and help
her face it? (c) back cover, Tying the
Knot, Susan May Warren, 2003.
This was a really great love
story about a young woman seeking to escape her past and start
her life over in a new town. However, she runs into someone
she can't seem to avoid and gets roped into helping him with
his camp by providing the first aid worker they desperately
need in order to keep the camp running. Working with kids
exactly like the ones she's seeking to avoid is not what she
expected. Perhaps God has a lesson in this experience after
all - and maybe even the love she's yearning for too.
This is a joy-filled, light
romance featuring a strong woman, an atypical hero (in that
he's a minority - Native Indian), and a quaint small town.
It wasn't until I read this novel that I realized so many
heroes in Christian romance seem to be all "white"
and not many of them are Native Indian, African-American,
Chinese, Japanese, or East Indian. I applaud Susan May Warren
for taking a chance and expanding the leading hero role to
include such an attractive, but different, hero in this novel!
It totally works for me!
Throughout the whole novel
is the story that Jesus Christ is the one who can set you
free from you past and be with you in your present and in
your future.
The setting is striking in
that it is mostly in a wilderness camp for troubled teens.
There is a lot of action, adventure, and an outdoorsyness
that will want to send you on a hike through the wilderness
(albeit on a well groomed trail!) of your own.
I really enjoyed this novel
and look forward to reading more of Susan May Warren's delightful
contemporary love stories.
