Beloved Leah

I was blown away by this story! I had never really considered the perspective of the "other woman" in the story of Rachel and Jacob. I remember feeling outrage for the many years Jacob had to work to win the fair Rachel, but I never considered how Leah must have felt to have been used to trick a man to marry her, knowing he loved another - her own sister. This book was amazing in that it so humanly and realistically portrayed the love between Jacob and Leah and Leah's own pain. It also portrayed the pain of Rachel at not being able to bear a child for Jacob. It dealt with many of the very intense motions of unrequited love, infertility, death, and mourning.

I really, really felt that I was there in the camp with this large family - seeing the wounds being inflicted, the healing as it happened, and the history as it was being made. It shed light on so much of the Biblical story that I never imagined before. I must caution though, that this is purely a fictionalized view of what was "behind the scenes" in the Bible stories about Jacob, Rachel, and Leah. It is one person's embellishment of the less detailed Biblical account.

If you are seeking a great story rooted in Biblical truth of real characters, then you'll love this story! It will open your eyes up to understand what these historical figures went through!

A terrific book!
