By Honor Bound is a book about the pioneers and North West Mounted Police who braved the rugged Canadian frontier in the early 1870′s in an attempt to bring civilization and law to a lawless territory. It centers around Hunter Stone, a man obsessed by revenge upon the renegade Indian who has stolen everything from him, including his beloved wife, Betsy. Will Reena O’Donnel, a young missionary to the Assiniboine Indians, nurture Stone’s blinded spirit back to life, as well as his broken body? Will her love and faith in God spill over into Stone’s hardened heart as she grows to care for this wild, angry man? Will joining the North West Mounted Police provide an outlet for this vengeful young man, or will it simply provide him with a convenient excuse to hunt down the renegade, Red Wolf? Can Reena’s faith and prayers change the destructive path that Hunter Stone has taken? This is a vivid book depicting the wild life in the Canadian frontier. The characters are rich with depth and the reader easily empathizes with them. A good first book in this series.
