Colors is a great way to introduce your child to art and colour at the same time. This beautiful little board book contains lovely artistic drawings by Thomas Kinkade and words by Sally Lloyd-Jones. Each page contains a painting by Thomas Kinkade while the opposite page contains a short rhyming verse about the colour ending with “God made _______________(white, pink, yellow, blue, green, orange, and red). What is unique about this book compared to other “colour” books on the market for pre-schoolers is that this book is very subtle. The featured colour is not plastered everywhere in the painting, rather it is found in more subtle details. It is so subtle on some pages that I do believe the very young preschooler may have difficulty seeing the colour. For example, the page on yellow artistically depicts a church, surrounded by a lovely garden of flowers, with subtle yellow light shining from the windows. The very young preschooler may have a hard time identifying the yellow from the windows. Is this a reason to pass on this book? Absolutely not!! I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some quality artistic paintings with subtle colour lessons and verse that thanks God for creating each colour. This is a must for any child’s library as it will teach an appreciation for beautiful art, the basics of colour, and a thankful attitude towards God for creating all the colours in our awesome world!
