Carina DiGratia finds herself suddenly Mrs. Shepard in the beginning of this sequel to “The Rose Legacy.” Although this marriage is one of convenience in order to save her life, Carina finds feelings running deep within her heart for her rogue husband. However, her husband finds that this marriage has caused him more problems than he ever expected and regrets ever entering into it. Will Carina’s flourishing love allow her to patiently wait for Quillan Shepard to forgive past hurts and open himself up to loving her fully? The mystery surrounding his own parents holds the key to unlocking his heart. Will Carina find that key in time to make their marriage what she longs for it to be?
I also enjoyed this novel very much. I loved the fact that the main character, Carina DiGratia Shepard does not surrender to the caricature of the pitiful and helpless woman, but she industriously finds a way to support herself in this dirty and rough mining town. In fact, she finds a way to improve the lives of the men and their families in this small town as well. I love the strong female characters in this book and enjoyed seeing the softer side of some of the male characters as well. Great job on characterization and the story line certainly carries the reader from page to page until one realizes with regret, that they have turned the last page. I certainly hope there will be a third book in this series by Kristen Heitzmann.
