This is a great book for the elementary aged reader!! It is told with humour and immediately catches the attention of the reader so that they want to read on. From the brightly coloured orange and purple cover to the cute cartoon drawings inside, this book is certainly geared for the young (although I must admit I wanted to read it from cover to cover too!) The author begins by describing who Jabez is (a guy like yourself who wanted to do great things for God). As the author tells the story of Jabez’s life and his prayer to God, he includes “Bible Snapshots” that tell another Bible story that relates to Jabez’s own experience (and ours too). It is broken up into 7 short illustrated chapters which makes it easy for kids to read a chapter at a time (or the whole book in one sitting). I would most definitely use this book in my Christian school classroom for devotions or as a parent with my own children. It is not preachy, but entertaining and relevent to children’s lives today.
