God wants to bless all of us, including our young children. “Dear God, please bless me in a great, big way!” begins The Prayer of Jabez for Little Ones by Bruce Wilkinson and Melody Carlson, a board book written and illustrated especially for preschoolers to help them as they learn to pray and know God better – a loving and strong God who listens when they pray and keeps them safe.


This is a delightful rendition for pre-schoolers of the very popular adult book, The Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson. My husband and I enjoyed the adult version so much and thought it was so life changing that we went out and bought it for several other people we know!! This pre-school edition has bright colours and realistic drawings depicting children in all of their normal daily activities. The text includes the specific Bible verse from 1 Chronicles 4:10 as well as rhymed stanzas of verse which young children can understand, enjoy, and apply to their own lives. For example, one page depicts children playing together (and fighting) and the Bible verse is “keep me from evil” while the rhyming verse goes:


“Dear God, please help me now, I pray,


To turn from wrong and to obey.


For I want everyone to see


That you are living inside me!”


Also of interest, are the questions for discussion on the last page of this little board book. A great way to lead into conversation about God’s blessings in our lives and the lives of our young ones. They are never too young to know that God loves them and wants to bless them abundantly. I plan to read it to my own sons over and over again!
