Carina DiGratia leaves the security of her family and friends to flee the man whom she has always intended to marry. This novel is full of love and intrigue as it realistically portrays life in a frontier mining town where the men are callous and dirty, and the women scarce and most of whom are employed in somewhat dubious professions. I enjoyed it very much, especially the Italian cultural flavour portrayed through the main character, Carina DeGratia. It lends a cultural view of other immigrants not normally portrayed in early west novels. I also enjoyed the portrayal of strong women making a living in the wild west in the best manner they could. I couldn’t wait to read the sequel to this novel, “Sweet Boundless.”
